Project: VC 2DOF Race-Car Simulator
MELBOURNE-based CKAS Mechatronics specialises in all aspects of engineering design, and is particularly focused on Mechatronic or ‘Smart’ systems development.
CKAS Mechatronics has developed the VC 2DOF race-car simulator by blending world-class engineering research with cost-effective technologies, taking vehicle response and driver sensation to the next level of realism.
The VC 2DOF’s motion processes employs a clever combination of microprocessor control, coupled with SEW-Eurodrive’s electronic drive control technology and gear motors, in place of expensive and often noisy hydraulic systems.
Precise speed, acceleration and positioning control of the motor–and ultimately the platform–are achieved using one SEW-Eurodrive’s MOVITRAC ‘B’ frequency inverter for each motor.
The combination of the mathematics in the CKAS algorithm and the speed, direction and ramping control of the MOVITRAC ‘B’ inverter is the key, enabling CKAS to achieve a system fidelity that exceeds anything else on the market for this type of machine.
The two-axis motor vehicle simulator, the CKAS VC 2DOF, is based on the company’s six-axis Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA)-accredited flight training simulator, the CKAS V7 6DOF.
Truly realistic driver sensations are only accomplished in motion systems with high ‘system fidelity’.
The completion of the VC 2DOF race-car simulator has seen CKAS expand its range of innovative motion simulator offerings. With the support of SEW-Eurodrive, CKAS will continue to develop technologies that provide Australian industry with cost-effective motion simulation solutions with extraordinary realism built in.
