CHTAA 2010 Conference Dinner attracts 70 punters

The Contract Heat Treatment Association of Australia held their Conference Dinner at The Royal Victorian Motor Yacht Club on the 26th August 2010.

There were over 70 attendees including CHTAA guests, member companies, their customers and sponsors who supported the event.

Guest speakers were Gordon New, Managing Director of Ronson Gears, who’s topic was ‘Where to from here – thoughts of a globetrotting Aussie’, and Mike Roberg, MTS Chief Metallurgist who presented a case study titled ‘A Gear Failure Analysis — First View’.

Gordon’s message was: "Pack your bags and get out there and join relevant overseas international organizations, network and become internationally competitive in specialized market segments."

Roberg gave an insight into the reasons behind a hypoid gear failure under repeated high stress loading.

The CHTAA President, John Mahoney presented the inaugural CHTAA Metals Industry, Life Achievement Award to Ross Williams and Harry Mahoney, for their contribution to the Australian Heat Treatment Industry.

Margaret Williams received the award on behalf of her husband, Ross (deceased) who was co-founder and former Managing Director of Metal Treatment Services. Harry Mahoney was founder and former Managing Director of both Alpha Heat Treatment and Detroit Flame Hardening (Aust.).

As well as the guest speakers, the evening provided an ideal opportunity for informal networking between CHTAA members, guests, customers and sponsors.
