Caterpillar has announced it will open a new factory to produce components for hydraulic excavators.
Based in China, the factory will manufacture undercarriage components and track assemblies.
Group president Stu Levenick explained that “this new factory is our latest strategic investment to continue expanding our presence and capacity in the Asia Pacific region”.
The 18 000 square metre facility will be located in the Xuzhou economic development zone.
It will be built near the Caterpillar Xuzhou hydraulic excavator facility, allowing for the shipment of finished undercarriage components directly to the excavator factory for final assembly.
When fully operational, Caterpillar expects to employ around 400 people at the site.
Caterpillar vice president Greg Folley said it will allow the company to provide greater support for mining in Asia Pacific.
