Capral Aluminium receives its first ASI CoC certified shipment from Alba

Capral achieved a significant milestone in sustainable sourcing, receiving its first ASI Chain of Custody certified shipment from Alba.

Recently, Capral achieved a significant milestone in sustainable sourcing, receiving its first Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Chain of Custody (CoC) certified shipment from Alba, a top global aluminium smelter based in Bahrain.

This certification assures that the aluminium used in Capral’s products has been responsibly sourced and produced per the highest environmental, social, and governance standards.

ASI Chain of Custody certification, as reported recently,  is a globally recognised standard for responsible production, sourcing, and use of aluminium. ASI CoC guarantees that all stages of the production process, from the extraction of raw materials to refining, smelting and production of primary aluminium billet, have been carried out responsibly and transparently.

ASI Chain of Custody certification aims to promote sustainable practices in the aluminium industry and is based on strict criteria that cover environmental, social, and governance standards. The certification ensures that companies adhere to these standards and provides a reliable and independent verification of their sustainability claims. Alba and Capral hold ASI Chain of Custody certification, ensuring the traceability of materials and associated claims can be verified and maintained as aluminium moves along the value chain.

Alba has been a member of the ASI since 2019 and was recently certified under ASI Chain of Custody standards. Alba is committed to promoting sustainable production and responsible sourcing practices in the aluminium industry.

Alba’s CEO Ali Al Baqali commented on the partnership.

“Alba is very proud and excited by this milestone which demonstrates a commitment to sustainability and responsible sourcing by both businesses.” he adds,

“This is our first ASI CoC shipment into Australia, following an industry-leading move by Capral to achieve their own ASI Chain of Custody certification,” Al Baqali said.

Going forward, all primary aluminium supplied by Alba to Capral will carry ASI CoC Certification to ensure sustainable practices and transparency regarding the origins of Alba’s primary aluminium as it moves through the value chain.

Capral joined ASI in 2022 and recently acquired certification in ASI Performance Standard V3 and Chain of Custody (CoC) V2 for the extrusion, warehousing and distribution of aluminium products and services. The certifications apply to all of Capral’s 26 facilities, composed of mills, distribution centres and trade centres, spread across every state and territory in Australia.

Luke Hawkins from Capral spoke about Capral’s journey.

“Capral embarked on the journey of ASI Performance and Chain of Custody Certification to offer Australian manufacturers, engineers, architects and builders who are working with our product confidence regarding the origins of their aluminium,” he said.

“We are very proud to work with suppliers like Alba who share this common goal.”

This first CoC shipment from Alba to Capral is a significant achievement for both businesses, demonstrating a shared commitment to sustainability and responsible sourcing, further promoting sustainable practices in the Australian aluminium industry and contributing to the development of a more sustainable and equitable society.
