Small and medium enterprises in Northern Adelaide will be the first to benefit from the Rudd Government’s Mapping the Connections program to understand and analyse the supply chains and links between businesses in target regions.
Mapping the Connections is part of the Rudd Government’s $271 million Enterprise Connect network. It delivers on a key election commitment to support and encourage business improvement.
“The Northern Adelaide project will set an important new benchmark in Australian industry analysis,” Industry Minister, Senator Kim Carr said.
“Through this project, we will work to develop a model which recognises the value of maximising existing collateral amongst business.
“We will then work together with firms to create more jobs and business for Northern Adelaide and Australia.
“We will be talking to business, getting direct feedback about how businesses across different industries relate to each another, and how we can build further on these links.
“Initially the program will survey businesses in the electronics, defence, information and communications technology industries to discover how they are inter-related.
“Analysing links between businesses in different industries will help us to identify real opportunities to improve businesses and ultimately grow jobs.”
The Northern Adelaide project will:
· provide detailed analysis of the scale and nature of the main business inputs and outputs in the three industries;
· identify critical market gaps and measure the scale and nature of the business opportunities needed to fill these gaps; and
· provide market information to let participants gauge their market share and market importance.
Funding has also been allocated to refine the mapping methodology used in Northern Adelaide for future application in other regions of Australia.
