Minister for industry and science Ed Husic said the Federal Budget included $12.6 million to support Cytiva’s Springfield BioPark Australia project in Ipswich, Queensland.
This will help Cytiva buy new equipment to expand its biomanufacturing capabilities for high-value medicines.
The $12.6 million investment is one of eight targeted industry grants the Albanese Government delivered in the Budget to support local industry, economic growth and job creation.
The Springfield BioPark Australia project will boost Australia’s sovereign capability in medical manufacturing, including mRNA vaccine production, which will support the country’s future pandemic preparedness.
Husic said the investment would support jobs and help industry secure domestic supply chains, clinical trials, and research and development.
“The Albanese Government was elected with a mandate to revitalise Australian manufacturing, with a strong focus on supporting regional development,” he said.
“We want Australia to be a country that makes things, now and well into the future. That includes advanced manufacturing and the biotechnology that is at the heart of Cytiva’s business.”
Federal member for Blair Shayne Neumann said he was delighted the Federal Government’s first Budget delivered on the commitment to the Springfield BioPark project.
“This investment will boost advanced manufacturing of critical therapies and vaccines here in Ipswich, supporting local jobs.
“The Springfield BioPark will be a real game-changer with so many benefits for Ipswich and Queensland,” Neumann said.
Federal member for Oxley Milton Dick said Queensland has always been the ‘smart state’, and the government was investing in new industries and well-paid, skilled jobs in the Western Corridor, one of the fastest growing regions in the country.
“I’ve made clear I want to drive advanced manufacturing in Greater Springfield – to bring business and community together to boost investment and jobs in the region, so I’m proud to see this commitment delivered by the Federal Government,” Dick said.
