Australian
technology company Diamond Circle claims to have created a cashless ATM that
can handle bitcoin transactions.
Bitcoins are a cryptocurrency introduced in 2009.
CoinDesk reports
that the Diamond Cicle’s new machine can sell bitcoins to a customer to buy or
sell bitcoins using their credit card (Visa or MasterCard) or bank account.
Brisbane-based Diamond Circle
was founded by financial technology industry veteran Stephen Rowlison.
Rowlison’s
company uses near-field communications and paper receipts in its machines,
rather than Quick Response codes.
According to Crypto Coins News, Rowlison said, “What I’ve
really done is brought together two existing technologies: contactless NFC and
BTC. QR code payments have been outlawed in China and have no inbuilt card
security, which is why using contactless technology makes so much sense.”
The machines,
which Diamond Circle calls “BTMs” are listed for sale on the company’s websitefor $12,900.
