It was
announced last Friday that a group led by Canadian rail and aerospace company
Bombardier had won a $4.1 billion contract to help upgrade Queensland’s train
fleet.
Reuters reports
that the consortium, which also includes John Laing, Itochu Corp and Uberior,
will provide “75 electrical multiple
units, build a depot and provide maintenance for 30 years.”
The group
was named as the preferred tenderer last November to provide the 75 six-car
trains.
Bombardier
will control $2.7 billion worth of the contract for the rolling stock project.
