Boeing has solicited bids for the building of its 777x long-haul passenger jet. Over a dozen US locations have been invited to bid for the work.
As Reuters reports, a company spokesman, Doug Adler said in an email that the company made the request on Friday and that bids need to be submitted by mid-December. The winning submission will be announced early next year.
Adler did not comment on the locations of the bids. However, South Carolina, Alabama, Texas, Utah, California, Kansas, Missouri and Washington state are thought to be possibilities.
AP reports that Boeing initially planned to complete the work at its traditional manufacturing location in the Puget Sound area in Washington state.
However, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union which represents the workers involved rejected the contract put forward by the company.
The workers are still interested in further pursuing an agreement and winning the bid, however Adler said that Boeing has no plans to continuing negotiations.
A long-range aircraft which holds around 365 passengers, the Boeing 777x is a revamp of its 777 wide-body jet. Boeing launched the aircraft in 1994 and has sold more 777s than any of its other current large planes.
