Workers at Autodom’s Dandenong South and Gisborne factories have upped tools this morning.
The ABC reports that 200 or so workers at the Victorian factories followed those at aiAutomotive, an Autodom subsidiary, who returned to work in Adelaide yesterday.
Ford and Holden have guaranteed Autodom’s debts while the troubled auto parts maker, which went into receivership yesterday, is examined by corporate advisory firm McGrathNicol.
"Our objective is to work constructively with Autodom's key stakeholders over coming days to stabilise operations in order to facilitate a thorough assessment of each business unit's financial position and prospects and to prepare viable business units for sale," said Keith Crawford, a partner at McGrathNicol, in a statement reported by the Herald Sun and others.
South Australian industry minister Tom Koutsantonis told Sky News that the restructure was an example of the car industry at its best, cooperating to ensure a positive outcome.
“Without this you would have seen the shutdown of Ford and Holden until we could have sorted this out,” he told Sky News.
Toyota is also a customer of Autodom’s, but is less affected by Autodom’s troubles and says it has enough parts to get it through to Christmas.
Koutsantonis told AAP that the details of the restructure would determine whether or not jobs would be lost, but those in South Australia were critical to Holden.
''So I think the vast majority of those workers are safe. What the final numbers are going to be, I don't know but we're working through that with Holden.''
