Babcock announces regional HQ relocating to Adelaide, 48 new jobs

A $2.5 million state government grant and current defence projects were behind a decision by engineering support services company Babcock International Group to relocate its regional headquarters from Brisbane to Adelaide.

News Corp reports that the announcement was made in London, where Babcock is headquartered, and attended by SA trade minister Martin Hamilton-Smith.

Hamilton-Smith said the move came at a crucial time, with $90 billion of continuous build naval work underway currently.

“We’ve launched one air warfare destroyer, we’ve got two more about to be launched about a Spanish design, there is 12 submarines based on the French design about to be signed up,” he said, according to News Corp.

The ABC reports that around 48 new jobs would be created in the state, which awarded Babcock a $2.5 million grant to relocate.

Jay Weatherill said the company – which has a role in sustaining the Collins class submarines – would be a part of SA’s transition to a high-tech economy.
