Thales chief executive, Chris Jenkins, has been elected the president of the Australian Industry Group (AIG).
Jenkins replaces Noel Cornish who had been president since November 2013 and has been active in the AIG for many years including as chairman of the AIG Defence Council and as its national vice president. Jenkins has been the chief executive officer of Thales for 20 years.
Jenkins said that he was looking forward to the role and its challenges.
“As President I look forward to working to ensure Ai Group is the premier industry body in Australia, representing our member interests and supporting policies that help our economy grow,” Mr Jenkins said.
“I very much share Ai Group’s ambition to make Australia the best place to do business. I am a passionate believer in the strength of local skills and a strong advocate for the global competitiveness of Australian engineering, design and manufacture”
Jenkins said that he believed there are many challenges ahead for business. He also believed Ai Group will take a positive role in influencing the delivery of good policy, including around tax, workplace relations, energy and skills and that these will be among our biggest priorities for the Ai Group this year.
