Australia and Germany collaborate on modern manufacturing

Leader of the Prime Minister’s Industry 4.0 Taskforce, Siemens ANZ CEO Jeff Connolly, has visited Hannover Messe to sign a joint collaboration agreement with Germany’s Platform Industrie 4.0 Group.

The industry groups have entered into the agreement to see closer collaboration between the two countries in developing modern manufacturing sectors.

In addition to creating opportunities to advance and modernise both countries’ manufacturing capacities, the partnership will also enable the digitisation and linking of manufacturing processes along global value chains and create opportunities to generate economic prosperity.

Furthermore, the partnership will focus on bringing consistency to open international standards, helping SMEs transform their businesses, cyber security, workforce planning, education and training.

Plattform Industrie 4.0 (Germany) and the Prime Minister’s Industry 4.0 Taskforce (Australia) have agreed to cooperate across five work streams, representing key challenges in the transition to Industry 4.0:

  • Reference architectures, standards and norms;
  • Support for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs);
  • Industry 4.0-Testlabs;
  • Security of networked systems; and
  • Work, education and training

“I am delighted about another milestone in relation to the two countries. Germany is a manufacturing powerhouse and this agreement firms Australia’s position in the front seat of the transformation,” said Dr Jens Goennemann, Taskforce Steering Committee member and CEO of the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre.

“We see that Australia has the capacity to build its strength and capability in the area of advanced manufacturing. Globalisation and digitalisation provide opportunities for Australian companies like never before. However, our success is subject to our ability to build collaborative relationships with international partners such as Germany who are setting the benchmark.”
