Arnott’s has received a $113,254 grant through the federal Clean Technology Investment Program to upgrade its Huntingwood plant’s processes and reduce its carbon output.
An Arnott’s spokesman told the Blacktown Sun that the grant would help reduce carbon emissions by 13 per cent and save the company $50,000 a year.
The local MP for Chifley, Ed Husic, visited the plant last week, and congratulated Arnott’s, which he said has spent $3.4 million on “green projects” over the last six years.
“When I’ve previously visited Arnott’s they impressed me with how much attention they pay to continually improving the way they operate,” said Husic in a statement.
“Arnott’s has looked at ways of using energy smarter by making changes to its production processes – so we’re tipping in more than $100,000.
“The Government is tipping in a third of the $340,000 total cost for Arnott’s to upgrade refrigeration controls and install other energy saving equipment.
