New Cavpower Service Operations Centre built with enhanced customer experience in mind

Ahrens demonstrated why they are leaders in the delivery of heavy engineering facilities with the completion of this fit-for-purpose facility.

Ahrens continued their excellent relationship with leading South Australian business, Cavpower, with the design and construct of their new $20-million-dollar Service Operations Centre.

With extensive experience in designing and building fit-for-purpose facilities for the heavy engineering industry, Ahrens were the ideal fit to deliver this latest project.

The fit-for-purpose building solution at Gepps Cross in South Australia interfaces with and complements Cavpower’s world-class Component Rebuild Centre at the same site, which Ahrens completed in 2017.

Cavpower, the Caterpillar dealer for South Australia, offer products and services to support a variety of industries, such as construction, agriculture, mining and trucking

The project featured a number of complex requirements and equipment installations within the workshop layout and design to ensure it met Caterpillar’s world-class standard.

Scope of works included a large quarantine capable washbay, track press, general workshop, new machine build-up workshops, hydraulics, engineering, fabrication, welding, lube truck and spray booth for the painting of Caterpillar components and equipment.

The specialised workshop comprises of 26 bays fitted with heavy-duty overhead cranes that range from a 12.5 to 25 tonne capacity to handle large off-highway Caterpillar trucks and the largest Caterpillar Dozers.

Separate workshops house a track press and wash bays with quarantine capabilities.

The centre integrates some of Cavpower’s existing operations and support services from its Enfield site.

The new centre provides safe movement of personnel, customers and equipment with separated access and egress corridors both external to and within the workshop facilities.

Works also allowed for a safer and more efficient receiving and servicing area for Caterpillar equipment; more efficient waste collection and disposal systems; and improved storage and delivery of parts, equipment, fluids and consumables.

Additional works at the request of the client included an additional mezzanine fit out to house a first-rate training facility to support Cavpower’s apprentice and specific programs to train young men and women entering the industry.

External works included the client selecting concrete pavers to future guard the hardstand areas, with a broken paver easily replaced as opposed to an entire concrete slab.

A particular focus was providing an enhanced customer service experience and comfortable work environment for employees with a 200-person canteen, caterer’s kitchen, alfresco dining area, coffee station for barista-made coffees, and combined offices, stores, and amenities.

The new facility greatly enhances Cavpower’s capacity and capability offering to meet customer needs now and into the future.

Ahrens were proud to continue to foster a strong working relationship and meet their commitment to create a mutual benefit for all involved.

Proud to be an Australian-owned family business, Ahrens is the most vertically-integrated construction company in Australia with a complete range of in-house capabilities to deliver your next project from concept to completion.
