Global electronics distributor, Mouser Electronics, announced on July 24 that it has signed a deal with Formerica Optoelectrics to distribute their full line, including optical interconnect solutions.
Formerica’s portfolio includes optical transceivers, active optical cables (AOC)/fanouts, optical bypass modules (OBM), fibre channel products, and serial digital interface (SDI) transceivers.
Formerica’s products are utilised in data centres, enterprise IT systems, and in networking, industrial automation and control, medical imaging, video surveillance, 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and broadcasting applications.
Formerica’s products are manufactured in its factory in Taiwan, and are also used in high-definition video transmission products, utilised for digital signage, magnetic resonance imaging, and broadcasting.
Mouser has selected Formerica’s products for distribution due to Formerica’s reputation for using innovative technologies that lead to higher energy efficiency, greater reliability, and superior performance.
This agreement applies to Mouser’s global operations, allowing for greater access to Formerica’s products for Australian manufacturers.
In a statement, Mouser highlighted Formerica’s fibre channel optical transceivers, which are hot-pluggable, Gigabit small form factor optical modules that include digital diagnostic functions and LC duplex receptacles. These technologies are encased in an all-metal housing which allows for superior electromagnetic interference (EMI) performance. The devices are also RoHS compliant and utilise a singular 3.3V power supply. These transceivers are used in high-speed storage area networks, 10GBASE-SR Ethernet and 4G8G16G fibre channel systems.
The statement also pointed to Formerica’s 100G optical transceivers, that can carry up to 100 gigabits per second (Gbps) of data and over a distance of 150 metres. The transceivers rely on a low level of power consumption, using a standard 12/8 optical fibre with MPO pluggable optical connector. Similar to the fibre channel optical transceivers, the 100G products have the same hot-pluggable and RoHS compliance qualities. The transceivers can operate anywhere from 0 to 70 degrees Celsius.
