Global aerospace and defence technology manufacturer L3Harris will expand its footprint in South Australia.
The company will increase its workforce by 20 to deliver its MAAPS business, which develops marine control systems and simulation products. The company will base itself at Mawson Lakes Technology Park as it integrates its systems into the new Offshore Patrol Vessels.
SA Premier Steven Marshall welcomed the announcement.
“This decision by L3Harris to establish here at Mawson Lakes is another vote of confidence in our burgeoning defence sector, which continues to attract national and international defence giants,” he said.
“This will grow jobs, bolster our defence industry and grow our economy.”
L3Harris in partnership with Luerssen is utilising the Integrated Platform Management System to reduce life-cycle costs of the vessels, and cut manning requirements.
According to Rangesh Kasturi, president of Maritime International, L3Harris, noted that the increase in the company’s presence in South Australia is to prepare for future work as part of Australia’s shipbuilding program.
‘With South Australia positioned as a growing and thriving hub for defence business, it was an excellent opportunity for L3Harris, as we grow our Australian footprint and expand our presence in the maritime domain in the region,” said Kasturi.
