Defence Innovation Hub conference open

Registration is now open for the 2019 Defence Innovation Hub Annual Industry Conference.

The conference will be held at the Hotel Realm in Canberra, on Monday, November 4.

At the conference, industry will be able to connect with defence leaders to showcase their latest innovations, with the possibility of being supported by The Defence Innovation Hub to turn ideas into advanced capabilities.

Since its establishment in 2016, the Defence Innovation Hub has taken over 70 proposals from a range of Australian businesses and given them the investment to progress to the next stage of development.

The Hub has a mandate to invest $640 million in the decade to 2025-2026 in maturing and supporting technologies from early science to engineering and development. This investment is structured in six capability streams: intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, electronic warfare, space and cyber; key enablers; land combat, amphibious warfare, and special operations; air and sea lift; maritime and anti-submarine warfare; and strike and air combat.

“The Defence Innovation Hub’s annual conference provides an opportunity for representatives from industry and research organisations to hear directly from senior Defence leaders about the Defence innovation system and the opportunities available to them,” said Defence Innovation Hub assistant secretary, Andrew Hodgkinson.

Hodgkinson noted that the approach of the Hub is open and competitive, which has allowed small businesses to compete with larger enterprises, and 86 per cent of the contracts awarded through the Hub have gone to micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises.

The investment by the Hub has gradually risen over the past three years.

“During the last financial year, we awarded $67 million in innovation contracts, our highest level of investment to date,” said Hodgkinson.
