Australian WorldSkills titles to be in Perth

The WorldSkills national competition will be held in Perth in August 2020, announced Education and Training Minister, Sue Ellery.

Across 60 skill categories, the WorldSkills Australia National Championships showcase and celebrate the best in vocational education and training around the country.

“The event will also put our most talented apprentices and trainees in the national spotlight,” said Ellery.

According to the West Australian government, 500 competitors and 20,00 visitors are expected to attend the 2020 competition, which runs alongside the SkillsWest Career Expo at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

“School students will also have the opportunity to see firsthand the enormous array of careers available in the VET sector and the skill and impact of various job roles. They will also have an opportunity to try a skill as well,” said Ellery.

In addition to the competition, demonstrations and networking for industry and education providers will be held.

Winners at the Australian competition will go on to compete at the international World Skills competition. In the 2019 edition, the tournament was held in the Russian city of Kazan, where Australia placed 8th in the competition.

The next WorldSkills International Competition will be held in Shanghai, in September 2021.

“The McGowan Government is proud to host the Worldskills Australia National Championships which will showcase WA’s excellent and diverse vocational education and training system,” said Ellery.
