The NSW Government is investing more than $2.8 million to support two key projects – including a Medovex project – in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven, aimed at boosting jobs and driving regional economic development.
Medovex Pty Ltd will receive $760,107 to establish an advanced medical device manufacturing and sterilisation facility in Wollongong.
The site will support production of chronic back pain treatment devices, small-batch sterilisation, and export expansion – creating five new jobs in the health and manufacturing sectors.
Medovex CEO, Christopher Athavle, said the project was a proud milestone for the company. “Making this product in Australia and NSW is a proud achievement for the whole team,” he said.
Volunteer Marine Rescue acting commissioner, Todd Andrews, added: “The new base will ensure volunteers can continue their vital work monitoring marine radio seven days a week and managing emergencies on local waters.”
Minister for Illawarra and South Coast, Ryan Park, said the funding would deliver a “significant boost” to local economies.
“This is about the Minns Labor Government working together with the private sector to support innovation and promote regional economic development,” he said.
Through the Regional Development Trust, funding will be matched by $1.2 million in contributions from project partners, creating nearly $4 million in total investment to strengthen emergency services and high-tech manufacturing.
