2014 Women in Industry Awards

Are there women in your business doing amazing work? Get your nominations in for the 2014 Women in Industry Awards.

The 2014 Women in Industry Awards recognises and rewards the achievements of women working in the industrial sectors, and aims to raise the profile of women within industry, as well as promote excellence.

Manufacturers’ Monthly has teamed up with Australian Mining and PACE to acknowledge women who have achieved success through their invaluable leadership, innovation and commitment to their industries.

And if the early response is anything to go by, the manufacturing industry is gearing up for a strong showing, with nominations rolling in for women from across the sector.

Manufacturing Skills Australia says women are still underrepresented in the industry and made up just 26.2% of the manufacturing workforce in 2013.

MSA says it considers women to be an under-utilised resource in the manufacturing industry.

“Work needs to be done to present manufacturing and associated occupational areas such as engineering trades as viable employment opportunities for women,” the industry group said.

“Research has shown that lack of exposure to manufacturing workplaces and occupations has a significant impact on decisions made by young women on post-school career choices.”

Editor-in-chief of Cirrus Media’s industrial publications, Cole Latimer, said the awards program was important in recognising the contributions being made to the changing face of industry.

“Though female participation has risen across all industrial sectors in Australia, companies are still focusing on more innovative attraction and retention strategies to foster this growing talent and support young women working in the sector,” he said.

“Women already working in the sector make up a big part of these support programs.

“They are paving the way for others and achieving great success, and we thinks this needs to be recognised in its own right."

Any women working in the industrial sector can enter the awards, with the event culminating with an awards dinner at the Ivy Ballroom in Sydney on Wednesday the 25th of June.
