121 workers at ASC will finish up their jobs in the next two weeks, a spokesperson has told Senate estimates, with the jobs shed mostly being contractors.
The company announced in August that it would cut 175 positions, with ASC’s Mark Lamarre confirming that 121 of these would finish by the month’s end, the ABC reports.
Another 25 had been hired recently to help with sea trials of the Air Warfare Destroyers.
In total, said Lamarre, 60 permanent jobs, 50 contractors and 28 subcontractors finished up this year. Currently, there are 1,772 employees in these roles for shipbuilding.
Earlier this month it was announced that ASC would be split into three companies – for ship and submarine building, Collins Class submarine sustainment, and infrastructure and workforce management – though would remain publicly owned.
