Alcoa Fastening Systems’ Huck BobTail lockbolt has been designed for heavy-duty applications where vibra tion resistance is critical.
The lockbolt’s shallow thread and large root radius is said to provide five to ten times the fatigue strength of conventional nuts and bolts. Full metal- to-metal contact between collar wall and bolt threads also eliminates the gap which can lead to loosening under vibration intensive conditions.
Unlike conventional threaded fasten ers, there is also no torque or impact transferred to the operator meaning the lockbolts can by safely taken to high preload values.
According to the manufacturer, the product features consistent clamp load, fast installation times and low tool maintenance costs.
A pintail-less design eliminates the initiation point for corrosion and sec ondary operations on the fastener.
