New all-in-one safety gate switch and interlock

PILZ Australia has launched the new PSENslock device that combines the functions of a safety gate monitoring switch and interlock in one compact, robust unit.

Suitable for mounting directly on 45mm extruded aluminium profiles, the device is designed for applications up to SIL3 (safety integrity level 3) in accordance with EN/IEC 62061, and Category 4 in accordance with EN 954-1.

Sealed to IP67, it can be used on a wide variety of machinery across a diverse range of industries. It has been designed to hold the gate closed by means of a long-life, maintenance-free electromagnet that achieves a holding force of 500N while drawing only 4.8W from a 24V DC supply.

Thanks to the non-mechanical locking technology, the switch/lock and actuator can tolerate a maximum horizontal and vertical misalignment of 5mm.

Proven non-contact, coded transponder technology ensures that the safety switch function is virtually impossible to manipulate, while also ensuring a long life when used on guards that are opened frequently during normal operation of the machinery.

Double-sided, high-brightness LEDs aid troubleshooting and enable the device to be mounted on left- or right-hinged guards. An M12 connector helps to make the unit quick and easy to install on the machine or to replace in the event of damage occurring.

Dimensions are 122 x 45 x 44mm for the switch/locking component and 138 x 52 x 24mm for the actuator.

It can be readily mounted on aluminium profiles for hinged guards, or Pilz can supply optional brackets for use on folding or sliding gates.

Intelligent printing system

MATTHEWS Intelligent Identification has recently added the Linx 6900 Solver to its Linx 6900 continuous inkjet (CIJ) range.

The printer is said to be able to reduce solvent usage as much as 40%, largely due to its purpose-built ink system which intelligently adapts to production requirements and uses solvent only as it is needed.

The ink system and specifically created intelligent software enables the printer to ‘think as it inks’. The software measures how much ink is being returned from the print-head via the gutter line in real time, and the printer’s ink system dynamically adjusts the amount of suction applied to the gutter according to how much ink is being returned.

This means the printer always provides enough suction to clear the gutter, but not too much (unlike standard CIJ printers). Optimised suction reduces airflow in the gutter line, which in turn reduces solvent evaporation.

According to Matthews, not only does the system use less solvent, it reduces the environmental impact of coding while still maintaining all the established functionality of the standard model.

These include: 5-line printing at speeds of up to 8.4m/s; an intuitive colour user-interface with WYSIWYG display and menu system; low-maintenance operation and; an attractive curved appearance.

Additional features include: automatic print-head cleaning which recycles solvent within the printer; full colour screen with simple menu structure and; portable design with plug-in connectors, easily transferable between production lines.

Power tagline unit

GLOBAL fall protection product manufacturer DBI-SALA, has announced the launch of its new Power Tagline system.

The system has been designed to provide easy access to obstructed self retracting lifelines (SRL’s) mounted overhead. With the push of a button, the unit lowers the SRL line allowing access to the SRL connecting hook for connection to a harness. Once the work is complete the line can be raised out of the way.

With travel speeds of to 22.7m/min, there is less waiting time for the fall protection system to be accessed. Quick and smooth operation means efficiency and increased productivity.

With a line that extends 30m, extreme ceiling to floor heights are now conducive to overhead fall protection systems.

Additionally, the power tagline has a limit switch that automatically turns off the unit once the counter weight contacts the overhead winch unit. This prevents damage and over-winding of the cable in case the operator is unaware of the location of the counter weight.

The unit operates on 240V, with standard electrical connections that make installation easy and fast. There is no need for costly electrical work when installing the system. The mounting brackets clamp onto existing structures, including beam flanges and trusses up to 457mm wide. No drilling or welding is required.

The unit is compatible with all self retracting lifeline models and accommodates multiple fall protection systems.
