Silvent products save money and cut noise at large sheet metal producer

Norsk Blikkvalseverk, Scandinavia’s biggest producer of sheet metal for the packaging industry, installed Silvent’s air nozzles to improve the working environment at their rolling mill. The use of compressed air was considered to be one of their greatest problems, due to the intolerably high noise levels it generated.

After studying the various manufacturing processes, Silvent recommended solutions for every application of compressed air usage throughout the mill. These solutions sought to cut noise to an acceptable level, as well as lowering energy consumption and improving the quality of steel being produced.

Different air nozzles were chosen depending on the application in question. The nozzles most frequently utilised were the 209, 705 and 920 models. The Silvent 209 air nozzle, made of zinc, can be used for a wide variety of applications to cut noise levels and energy consumption. The Silvent 705 air nozzle is made entirely of stainless steel, with aerodynamic slots to allow for optimal utlilisation of compressed air whilst keeping the noise level to a minimum. The Silvent 920 air nozzle, made of zinc, is a flat nozzle that generates a broad and efficient air cone.

Silvent air nozzles are avaliable in Australia only from Spray Nozzle Engineering.

Maximum positioning accuracy for precision applications

Aerotech has introduced a series of rotary air-bearing stages designed for high precision angular positioning and velocity stability.

The stages use a slotless, brushless motor that is inherently zero-cogging and torque ripple-free to maximise positioning accuracy. According to the company, the low-profile design reduces effective working height, minimising stack-up errors.

The ABRS stages meet the exacting motion control requirements of semiconductor wafer inspection, high precision metrology, x-ray diffraction, optical inspection and fabrication, and MEMS/nanotechnology device fabrication.

Applications requiring exceptional planar performance will benefit from large air-bearing surfaces that provide high stiffness and load capacity for reduced face error motion, the company says.

A direct coupled, high accuracy rotary encoder achieves resolution of <0.03 arc second and accuracy of ±1 arc second or less when used with the unit’s feedback multipliers and controls.

A clear aperture facilitates product feed-through, laser beam delivery, cable clearance or other application-specific requirements.

Custom versions of the ABRS are available for rate table and inertial guidance test-stand applications.
