Burder Industries raises competitiveness of manufacturing in Australia through solar

Burder Industries has installed a 355kWp solar PV system at its facility
in Wangaratta, Victoria.

Supplied by world-leading solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturer, Yingli
Solar and installed through its distribution partner, EnviroGroup, a specialist
provider of renewable energy products and systems for commercial, government
and residential clients, the new solar power system will provide for 90 per
cent of Burder Industries’ daily energy consumption while reducing electricity
costs by over 70 per cent each year.

EnviroGroup installed 1,420 250W YGE high efficiency polycrystalline PV
panels, which will generate approximately 467MWh of solar energy per year.

Burder Industries is a regional manufacturer of customised tractor and
earthmoving equipment for the agricultural industry. Competing directly with
cheaper imported equipment, the company needed to reduce operating costs to
increase their competitiveness in the market. With energy accounting for a
large part of their costs, Burder looked toward solar energy for a solution.

The solar PV installation at Burder Industries also provides a 25-year
hedge against future electricity price rise, also reducing their carbon
footprint by up to 607 tonnes annually. The company’s investment in solar PV is
expected to generate an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of over 25 per cent
annually.

According to Adam Fendyk, General Manager, Burder Industries, the
company views the switch to solar as a wise investment decision though it has
involved a large capital investment for the business. He adds that the decision
to go solar will be critical to the long-term success of their business as it
will enhance their domestic competitiveness and the longevity of their operations.

Daman Cole, Managing Director for Yingli Green Energy in Australia, New
Zealand and the Pacific adds that solar power is vital for energy intensive
companies such as Burder Industries as it will help to reduce their operating
costs and carbon footprint.

EnviroGroup managed all aspects of the solar project including system
design, installation, high voltage connection design and upgrade, 500kVA
substation sourcing and installation, grid connection and metering.

One of the world’s largest solar panel manufacturers, Yingli Solar has
delivered more than 30 million photovoltaic panels or the equivalent of over 9
gigawatts of solar energy to homes, businesses and utilities in more than 50 countries.
